CUSTOM HARDWOOD FRAMES
STRENGTH. BEAUTY. FORM
Heinrich Zimmer, Ltd. creates art frame art in ten unique styles inspired by the design principles that spirited the Arts & Crafts Movement. Each frame is made of white oak or curly maple, hand-selected to compliment the design of the particular frame. The wood’s warm natural beauty is enhanced with our unique design process of grain-matching, thickness layering, proportioning, joinery methodology and fine finishing - which combine to create a unique “sense of the frame.” The finished frame showcases the artists particular sense of style and handiwork, making the artwork of the frame as much an object of beauty as the work of art it surrounds. In the end, a Heinrich Zimmer frame becomes the portal that welcomes the observer and encourages exploration of the artwork, even as it perfectly compliments the classic Arts & Crafts setting where it hangs.
CLASSIC. TIMELESS. ENDURING
The Arts & Crafts Movement (1880-1920) began in England and later spread throughout continental Europe and eventually across America. A reaction to the industrial revolutions dramatic impact on work styles - from skilled craftsman to long lines of people performing repetitive tasks in arduous factory environments - combined with the rejection of the complex, contemporary Victorian designs in art to create a new set of of principles among artisans and craftsmen. The “Movement” as it quickly became known, turned towards a style that expressed the beauty inherent in handiwork and craft. By adapting standard principles of design to the expression of local culture, the Movement adapted itself country-by-country. The new art form was expressed through:
Straightforward design - clean, simple, enduring, “timeless”
Beautiful natural materials - wood, ceramics, textiles, glass, soft metals
Cherished craftsmanship - handiwork, skill, art.
DESIGN. CRAFTSMANSHIP. CREATE
Heinrich Zimmer frames are designed for artwork and homes in the Arts & Crafts tradition. However, the principles we use to create our frames are timeless. Our attention to detail, historical design traditions, and craftsmanship enable these frames, each a work of art in itself, to fit into any environment. From the woods we select and the joinery methods to the design style and the fine finishes, the elements of each frame are carefully combined to faithfully express the principles of the Arts & Crafts Movement.
